Houses

As a house owner, I like to keep an eye on house prices in the area, so I am going to blame this lot of dreams on that. As I do seen to have an awful lot of dreams of houses to which I have never been, sometimes however there is a feeling that they are familiar.

There is a common theme that seems to run through them, that of a new discovery. Finding rooms within rooms, finding rooms that have been hidden.

I used to have a recurring dream were I was running through the house (which I have never known) where I live, I am running away from something but I do not know what, it feels much like the grizzly bear dream I had as a child, that of foreboding fear. This dream has two versions. One where I end up in an underground room, like a wartime bomb shelter only with windows at the top so that you can see the people walking past outside, the room has white washed walls and is fitted like a kitchen, I am not alone, I am suddenly with 15-20 people all talking in different tongues. The other version, I run through a door into what looks like a junk room with a wall of window over looking a forest of bear trees. I turn to walk back through the door to find there is no door. I can heard the approaching footsteps and shouting of a large group of angry people. My only hope of escape is to smash one of the windows and run for it. But the air outside the room feels thick, I am running with all I have, my chest is tightening, the ground under my feet is slippy and covered in fallen branches, the group after me are getting closer, I am struggling to breathe, I hear a loud thud behind me and I wake up.

Another dream I have had more than once, (the dream is different but the house and people are always the same) It is a three storey house. I enter the house via the front door and he shows me the kitchen, Sitting room and games room which seem to be on the ground floor and the front of the house but on the first floor at the back of the house, he points out other rooms as we pass. He has redecorated this floor and it is beautiful, full of rich dark reds, browns and greens. He leads me up the stairs that are in the middle of the house, pointing out the ornate banister as if I would miss it. He has re plastered all the walls and painted all the doors white on this floor, So many doors. Four bedrooms, play room, two bathrooms. We then go back down two sets of stairs to what should be the basement but it is the back of the house, the stairs come out in a hall way with telephone table, back door and hat stand, a door to the left lead to a sitting room and library. Continuing left the hall way leads to a lounge with lime green walls, dark green leather sofas and a wrought iron partitioning leading to a open plan chocolate brown TV room with bedroom leading off. This is where we end up sitting, 10 foot from the back door.

A dream I had just the other week was of a different house, which I was being shown round by a very funny and eccentric young man, While he was showing my partner the kitchen I wandered off to explore the house. I found a room with dark green carpets and a grand piano one end, the other end was full of cupboards of musical instruments and four lines of solid wood music stands, guitar stands. Everything was painted in an off white, finished off with thin lines of electric blue around the edges. I also found the most beautiful bedroom I have ever seen, I walked into the room to find that the super king size water bed was on a platform three steps above the floor which was a deep caramel coloured shag pile, the walls were painted coffee and cream, which matched the bed spread. On top of which was a chocolate brown chenille throw which matched the floor length curtains that hung over the patio door that opened on to a decked area that over look a wonderful garden that looked like a mix of the secret garden and some elvish paradise.
